Sara Ray

Sara Ray, a Windsor, Colorado native, is a former DI Volleyball player at the University of Wyoming. Ray earned her B.A. and M.A. from UW. Ray spent time working at Arizona State University before returning to her alma mater and eventually becoming the Director of Student-Athlete Support Services at Colorado State University.

Becky Orr

Becky Orr, a Mustkegon, Michigan native, has been with the CSU Student Athlete-Support Services office for six years. Orr began her career at CSU as an Academic Coordinator in 2010 and moved into the Assistant Director position in 2013. Becky earned her B.S. from Michigan State University and continued to earn her M.A. and M.S. from MSU in 2008

Joylynn Benefiel

Academic Coordinator

A Fort Collins, Colorado native, Joy Benefiel entered her position as Academic Coordinator after working for the SASS office for five years. Prior to becoming an Academic Coordinator, Benefiel worked in the SASS office as an Office Coordinator among other things. Benefiel is a CSU graduate, earning her B.A. and M.A. from Colroado State University. She has also worked in other roles across campus, primarily in the Resources for Disabled Students Office.

Marie Tyrrell

Marie Tyrrell, a Manistique, Michigan native, joined the CSU Student-Athlete Support Services office after spending time working for the University of Wyoming Academic Support office.Prior to her time at UW, Tyrrell worked at North Carolina State University. Tyrrell earned her B.S. from Michigan State University in 2009 and obtained her M.S.from MSU in 2010.

Cheryl Walther

Learning Specialist

Cheryl joins us from the University of South Florida, where she served as a Learning Specialist for the past 2 years. She has also made stops at Florida Gulf Coast University, the University of Florida and the University of Wisconsin, gaining experience in both the Athletics side of the house as well as serving as a campus academic advisor. Cheryl earned a Master’s degree in Student Personnel in Higher Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, both at the University of Florida.

Keenan Wimbley

Academic Coordinator

Keenan Wimbley, a 2011 Illinois State University graduate and former Division I football player, joined the CSU Student-Athlete Support Services staff this March.Wimbley previously worked as an Athletic Academic Coordinator at his alma mater where he oversaw academic progress for Women’s Gymnastics and Football student-athletes. During his four years with Illinois State University, Wimbley assisted in eligibility reviews, recruiting visits, and also served as the faculty liaison for SAAC and the Jack North Student-Athlete Leadership Academy. The former Redbird began his career as an Athletic Academic Services Graduate Assistant and Athletic Academic Services Intern in years 2012-2014. He also worked as a Career Athletes Intern in 2012. A native of Florida, Wimbley received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Insurance with a minor in Economics and later earned a Master’s of Science degree in Sport Management in 2014 from Illinois State University.

Kerry Wright

Academic Coordinator

Kerry Wright, a 2011 Xavier University Sport Management graduate and former Division I swimmer, began at CSU in the fall of 2015. Kerry joins SASS after spending the past year at the University of Miami where she served as an Athletic Academic Support intern. In this role she worked with several teams including football, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s golf, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball in addition to gaining experience as an assistant for various student-athlete development programs. Prior to Miami, Kerry earned a Master’s in Business Administration at Xavier while serving as a graduate assistant coach for the Swimming and Diving program for 2 years and as a graduate assistant intern for Athletic Academic Support.
